Duluth Diocese Named in Public Nuisance Lawsuit

Diocese Endangering Public by Concealing Information About Pedophile Priests

Survivor Will Speak Publicly For First Time About Sexual Abuse By Father Charles Gormly at Brainerd Church

(Saint Paul, MN) – At a press conference today in Duluth, attorney Mike Finnegan will announce the filing of a lawsuit on behalf of a woman naming the Diocese of Duluth as a defendant.  The woman was sexually abused by Father Charles Gormly at St. Francis of Assisi church in Brainerd, Minn., in approximately 1960-61, when she was 12-13 years old.

The courageous survivor will speak publicly for the first time about sexual abuse by Father Gormly.  The survivor will be present at the press conference and will speak about the abuse by Gormly and why she’s coming forward.

The lawsuit alleges that Gormly’s abuse of Plaintiff resulted from the Diocese of Duluth’s negligence and concealment of information about Gormly’s sexually abusive past. The Diocese continues to conceal information about pedophile priests, which constitutes an ongoing nuisance. By refusing to publicly release this information, the Diocese puts children at risk. The lawsuit seeks an order requiring the Diocese to publicly release the names of all clergy accused of child sex abuse, and all documents regarding these predator priests, to help keep children safe.
