Fr. Stephen C. Hernandez was incardinated in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1985. At least two survivors have come forward alleging child sexual abuse by Fr. Hernandez. The Los Angeles Police Department investigated a claim that he repeatedly sexually abused a teenage boy from approximately 1998 to 2002 when he worked as a counselor at Eastlake Juvenile Hall. The boy said Fr. Hernandez sexually abused him at his family home and at the priest’s residence at Our Lady of Guadalupe. In 2004, Fr. Hernandez was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Fr. Hernandez attempted suicide in 2006 when he learned he had been investigated for alleged child sexual abuse four years prior. He was sentenced in 2006 to three years’ probation and ordered to stay away from children. Fr. Hernandez was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors. Fr. Hernandez’s current status as a priest, his whereabouts, and whether he has access to children are unknown.
