Former priest sentenced to 25 years in prison

A former Roman Catholic priest who took a boy on religious retreats to have sex with him was sentenced today to 25 years in prison.

U.S. District Court Judge Rebecca Pallymeyer gave Donald McGuire approximately three more years than prosecutors had requested.

Pallymeyer called McGuire?s conduct ?abhorrent.?

McGuire, a Chicago-based Jesuit priest, was expelled from his religious order last February and convicted in October.

McGuire did not apologize in court today, but said he will ?continue to praise God and beg him to bless all who participated in this trial as well as their families.?

Key testimony during McGuire?s trial was provided by a boy known in court only as Dominick, who said McGuire had repeatedly molested him in Chicago and elsewhere. Several other boys testified that McGuire had engaged in sexual conduct with them as well.

In 2006, McGuire was convicted in Wisconsin for child molestation and sentenced to seven years in prison. He has appealed that conviction. He also faces charges in Arizona.
