Statement From Jeff Anderson on Illinois Attorney General’s Report on Sexual Abuse by Catholic Clergy

(Illinois) – Today, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan released a preliminary report into the sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy in Illinois. The report concluded that the identities of over 500 Catholic clergy accused of sexual abuse of a minor were still hidden by the Bishops, that the Bishops have failed the victims, and that the Bishops are incapable of solving the sexual abuse crisis on their own.

We applaud the efforts of Attorney General Madigan and her office. It is alarming, that in 2018, there are over 500 clergy accused of sexual abuse of minors that the Bishops are still concealing in Illinois. The Illinois Bishops must release these names immediately so that survivors can heal and no other kids are harmed.

Currently, a lawsuit brought by Jeff Anderson & Associates on behalf of four survivors, is moving forward against the Illinois Bishops seeking to force them to disclose the names of all offenders who have been accused of sexually abusing minors.
