Msgr. Peter Garcia was ordained for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1966. His career was comprised of a series of short term assignments throughout the Archdiocese. In 1984, the aunt of two boys reported that Msgr. Garcia engaged in sexually inappropriate conduct with her two minor nephews. Msgr. Garcia has been accused by at least 12 people of child sexual abuse. He has been named in at least three civil lawsuits. Based on his priest file, it is believed that he targeted boys who were illegal immigrants and would threaten to have them deported if they told anyone about the abuse. In 1989, Cardinal Roger Mahony requested that Msgr. Garcia seek laicization. It is believed Msgr. Garcia resigned from ministry in 1989. In 1993, another allegation of sexual abuse was made against Msgr. Garica. Msgr. Garcia was sent to St. Luke Institute and Servants of the Paraclete, both institutions are known for treating priests accused of child sexual abuse. Msgr. Garcia was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors. From 1998 to his death in 2009, Msgr. Garcia’s status as a priest, his whereabouts, and whether he had access to children are unknown.
