According to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, at least one survivor has come forward alleging child sexual abuse by Fr. Tilak A. Jayawardene in approximately 1990. Fr. Jayawardene was an extern priest visiting from Sri Lanka. He reportedly fled to Sri Lanka in 1990 after he learned about child sexual abuse allegations made against him by a teenage boy. In 1991, Fr. Jayawardene was criminally charged in 1991 with sexually abusing a child. United States authorities have sought his extradition. Fr. Jayawardene was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors. Fr. Jayawardene’s status as a priest, current whereabouts, and whether he has access to children are unknown.
