Fr. Santiago L. Tamayo was ordained in 1959 in the Philippines. He began to work in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1968 and was incardinated in 1978. At least one survivor has come forward alleging child sexual abuse by Fr. Tamayo, from approximately 1978 to 1984, while he worked at St. Philomena in Carson. Fr. Tamayo was named in a 1984 child sexual abuse lawsuit. Fr. Tamayo reportedly fled to the Philippines shortly after the lawsuit was filed, where the Archdiocese continued to pay him. The Archdiocese later settled the claim against Fr. Tamayo. Fr. Tamayo was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors.
