Fr. Walter A. Breuning retired in 1999 and was removed from public ministry in 2002 in the wake of allegations that he had sexually abused a child 20 to 40 years earlier. Fr. Breuning has been named in at least three civil lawsuits, one of which was filed by two brothers who accused Fr. Breuning of sexually abusing them in the late 1960s to the early 1970s. Fr. Breuning was included in the Diocese of Peoria’s list of “Priests Removed from Ministry Due to Allegations of Abuse of a Minor.” He is believed to have died in 2009.
