Notes: In 2010, Fr. Alejandro Jose Castillo was accused of sexually abusing two young boys. The alleged abuse occurred in the two preceding years, while Fr. Castillo was working at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Ontario, CA. In the week following the allegations, Fr. Castillo was removed from active ministry. The following month, over 200 parishioners held a demonstration near the headquarters of the San Bernardino Diocese to show their support for Fr. Castillo. A few weeks after the demonstration, Fr. Castillo was arrested and tried for seven counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under age 14 and one count of forcible lewd and lascivious acts with a child under age 14. He eventually pleaded no contest and was sentenced to a year in jail and three years’ probation. A report was subsequently released accusing Fr. Castillo of sexually abusing an additional five former parishioners. Following the criminal charges, three separate civil suits were filed against Fr. Castillo and the Diocese of San Bernardino. Two of the three suits have settled. Fr. Castillo was included in the Diocese of San Bernardino’s list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse. According to the Diocese of San Bernardino, Fr. Castillo has been removed from the priesthood. His current whereabouts and whether he has access to children are unknown.
