Nicholas A. Unterstein: Accused of Sexual Misconduct

Nicholas A. Unterstein

Fr. Nicholas A. Unterstein of the Diocese of Rockville Centre was accused of sexually abusing two minor sisters from approximately the late 1960s until the early 1970s. Fr. Unterstein worked at St. Hugh of Lincoln in Huntington Station, New York when he allegedly began to sexually abuse the young girls. One of the girls filed a civil lawsuit which settled in 2000. Fr. Unterstein was defrocked in 1980.

In 2002, a grand jury was convened to investigate the Diocese of Rockville Centre’s handling of clergy sexual abuse allegations. The Suffolk County Grand Jury’s description of Priest J matches a public allegation of child sexual abuse against Fr. Unterstein.

Fr. Nicholas A. Unterstein was a priest for the Diocese of Rockville Centre and worked at the following locations:

  • 1966-1971: St. Hugh’s, Huntington Station, NY
  • 1972-1973: St. Peter the Apostle, Islip Terrace, NY
  • 1973-1978: St. Thomas the Apostle, West Hempstead, NY

Fr. Nicholas A. Unterstein is believed to be residing in Williamsburg, Virgina.
