Victor Lucien Chateauvert: Clergy With Credible Claims Against Them Concerning Sexual Abuse of a Young Person

Father Chateauvert was ordained in 1973 and subsequently worked as a priest in the Diocese of Duluth. Fr. Chateauvert sexually abused two boys over a three year period at Holy Family Catholic Church in Bull Dog Lake, MN and was arrested in December 1992. He was criminally convicted and sentenced to six months in jail in February 1993.

Other assignments for Fr. Chateauvert included Our Lady of the Visitation in Ottawa, Ontario Canada from 1974-1978 and again in 1982. Father Victor Chateauvert died March 28, 1999.

Efforts to unseal the secret documents regarding clergy sexual abuse in the Diocese of Duluth began with the first lawsuit filed in June 2013. Since then, survivors have taken numerous actions to make the files public.

In October 2015, a jury verdict was handed down against the Diocese of Duluth in a child sexual abuse case in Ramsey County involving Fr. James Vincent Fitzgerald. On December 7, 2015, the Diocese of Duluth filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
