William T. Greene: Archdiocesan Clergy Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of a Minor

In February 2004, Msgr. William T. Greene of the Archdiocese of New York was named in a lawsuit brought by survivors of child sexual abuse. Msgr. Greene worked at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, New York, when he allegedly sexually abused a survivor from approximately 1956 to 1957. In 2009, a second survivor notified the Archdiocese of New York that Msgr. Greene had also sexually abused him at St. Patrick’s from approximately 1954 to 1959.

Msgr. William T. Greene was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of New York in 1929. He was elevated to monsignor in 1950. He worked at the following locations:

  • Holy Cross Church, New York, NY
  • New York City Transit Authority (chaplain)
  • St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York, NY (music director)
  • Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Ardsley, NYMsgr. Greene died on September 24, 1976.
