Fr. Joseph Reade was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Pueblo. Fr. Reade was included in the Colorado Attorney General’s Special Master’s Report on “Roman Catholic Clergy Sexual Abuse of Children in Colorado from 1950 to 2019.” According to the Special Master’s Report, child sexual abuse allegations were made against Fr. Reade in 1986 and 1994. Fr. Reade allegedly sexually abused a minor, from approximately 1969 to 1971, while he worked as a chaplain at the Veterans Administration Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. In approximately 1986, Fr. Reade allegedly sexually abused a minor while he was a retired priest and exercised limited ministry in the Diocese of Pueblo. The Diocese of Pueblo purportedly reached a nancial settlement with one of the survivors and claimed a second allegation was unsubstantiated. In approximately 1986, the Diocese of Pueblo brie y suspended Fr. Reade’s faculties and restored them that same year. According to the Special Master’s Report, Fr. Reade’s le does not indicate that either alleged child sexual abuse report was ever reported to law enforcement. Fr. Reade’s status as a priest and whether he had access to children from 1980 until his death in 1990 are unknown.
