Fr. Michael Barry was ordained a priest for the Society of Jesus. In a 2007 lawsuit, Fr. Barry and three other priests were accused of sexually abusing a minor student at Cardinal Ritter High School in St. Louis, Missouri in approximately the 1970s and the 1980s. Fr. Barry was also included on the Jesuits U.S. Central and Southern Province’s “List of Jesuits with Credible Accusations of Sexual Abuse of a Minor” in the category “Jesuits of this province against whom one or more credible claims of sexual abuse of a minor or vulnerable adult have been made – A Single Allegation.” The Jesuits’ list states additional assignments of Fr. Barry to Regis High School in Denver, Colorado; Cardinal Ritter High School in St. Louis, Missouri; and the White House Retreat in St. Louis, Missouri.
