Fr. John McCarthy was ordained a Jesuit priest. Fr. McCarthy was named on the Jesuits’ 2019 list of “USA Northeast Province Jesuits with Credible Allegations of Sexual Abuse of a Minor.” In 2005 and again in 2018, Fr. McCarthy was accused of sexually abusing minors in approximately the 1970s. Fr. McCarthy reportedly worked at Loyola High School in Baltimore, Maryland from approximately 1946 to 1949, prior to his ordination. Fr. McCarthy was
also named on the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s 2019 “List of Priests and Brothers Accused of Child Sexual Abuse” under the subsection “Priests and Religious Brothers (in alphabetical order).” The details of the sexual abuse allegations, including when and where the alleged abuse occurred, are unknown.
