Fr. James A. Nowak was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Joliet in 1967. At least eight survivors have accused Fr. Nowak of child sexual abuse in the 1970s and 1980s. Fr. Nowak retired in 2007 and was removed from ministry without privileges in 2012 amid allegations of child sexual abuse that had occurred 25 years prior. Fr. Nowak has been named in at least two civil lawsuits. Fr. Nowak has been named on the Diocese of Joliet’s list of “Diocesan Priests with Credible Allegation(s) of Sexual Misconduct with Minors Made Against Them While Serving in the Diocese of Joliet” with “Substantiated Allegations.” Fr. Nowak’s current whereabouts, status as a priest, and whether he has access to children are unknown.
