Buffalo Priest Msgr. James Kelly Identified For The First Time As Alleged Perpetrator of Child Sexual Abuse in Two Child Victims Act Lawsuits

(Buffalo, NY) – Attorneys from the law firms of Jeff Anderson & Associates and Steve Boyd, PC, recently filed two new lawsuits under the New York Child Victims Act (CVA) identifying Msgr. James Kelly as an alleged perpetrator of child sexual abuse. It is believed Msgr. Kelly is currently a priest in service at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Tonawanda in the Diocese of Buffalo. This is the first time Msgr. Kelly has been identified as an alleged perpetrator of child sexual abuse.

“We have serious concerns about Msgr. Kelly and the safety of kids in the Buffalo community,” said Attorney Jeff Anderson. “There is a danger, and we are sounding the alarm. We ask any survivor or person with additional information to confidentially contact law enforcement.”

The lawsuits were filed in New York State Supreme Court by AB Doe 378 and AB Doe 62. Survivor AB Doe 378 alleges child sexual abuse by Msgr. Kelly from approximately 1980 to 1982 when Kelly worked as a priest at St. Nicholas, St. Benedict the Moor, and the Diocesan Educational Campus in Buffalo. Survivor AB 62 Doe alleges abuse by Msgr. Kelly from approximately 2005 to 2007 at St. Margaret’s in Buffalo.

The deadline to file a lawsuit under the New York Child Victims Act and to file a claim in the Diocese of Buffalo bankruptcy case is August 13, 2020.
