Diocese of Camden Clergy Abuse Attorney Praises Bishop Williams’ Words – Now Demands Action

(Camden, NJ) – The newly appointed bishop of Camden, Bishop Joseph A. Williams, announced that the Diocese of Camden will no longer oppose a statewide investigation of sexual abuse by clergy. This is a huge moment for survivors of clergy abuse and a powerful statement by Bishop Williams.

“This action by Bishop Williams shows a new willingness for transparency and accountability. This may signal the lifting of the curtain of darkness, denial, and deceit. We praise these words as spoken by Bishop Williams and all the survivors, who have been so long deceived, demand and deserve action. Talk is cheap, and it’s past time for the bishop to take real action. We stand with the survivors to work with the bishop.”

When courts approve new trials in abuse lawsuits, it often means prior decisions were challenged or legal issues were identified that require the case to be heard again. New trials can lead to additional testimony, evidence, and legal review.
