NYDailyNews.com: Two days after Jerry Sandusky was arrested and charged with 40 counts of sexual abuse of minors earlier this month, Pennsylvania attorney general Linda Kelly held a press conference to discuss the ongoing investigation, and at one point urged other victims to come forward to assist with the probe.
Thursday night on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360,” a lawyer representing alleged victims of Sandusky not mentioned in the 23-page grand jury presentment said the disgraced former Penn State defensive coordinator used his “position of trust and power, and his caring ways as a coach and mentor to groom families and children.”
Jeff Anderson, the attorney, told CNN’s Jason Carroll that one of the alleged victims he represents was enraged when he saw the recent NBC interview with Sandusky, in which Sandusky told interviewer Bob Costas that he was not a pedophile and was not sexually attracted to boys.
“He saw the interview Sandusky did, and he felt a mixture of fury, despair and fear,” said Anderson, referring to his client. “And he shared with me that fury, despair and fear and said, ‘When I heard him say that he had not abused or raped or violated children, I knew that he had not only violated me, but he had put a dagger in my heart, salt in the wounds.’ ”
Anderson said his client spoke of “multiple instances of child rape” by Sandusky, and “other instances more isolated.”
The central part of the prosecution’s case against Sandusky involves Mike McQueary, the Penn State receivers coach who is on indefinite leave from the university, and testified that he saw Sandusky sodomizing a 10-year-old boy in a shower on Penn State’s campus in 2002, the boy’s hands up against the wall. Contrary to a recent email McQueary sent to a former classmate claiming he alerted authorities after witnessing the ’02 incident, university and State College police have said that there was no such report by McQueary.
The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reported Thursday that it had reviewed a handwritten witness statement McQueary gave to investigators. The Patriot-News report said that nowhere in the statement is there any mention of McQueary saying he tried to stop the alleged rape, nor is there any mention McQueary went to police to report what he saw. The newspaper also reported Thursday that attorney Andy Shubin said several more people have told him they were abused by Sandusky.
