Judge Sets Deadline for Survivors in Diocese of Buffalo Bankruptcy

Survivors Now Have Until August 14, 2021, to File Sexual Abuse Claims

(Buffalo, NY) – In a ruling issued today by Judge Carl L. Bucki of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Western District of New York, survivors of child sexual abuse within the Diocese of Buffalo will have until August 14, 2021, to file claims against the Diocese.

“We applaud the decision by Judge Bucki to give survivors more time to summon their courage, come forward, and hold their abusers accountable,” said attorney Jeff Anderson of Jeff Anderson & Associates. Anderson and Buffalo attorney Steve Boyd represent dozens of survivors of child sexual abuse by clergy in Western New York and have filed more than 240 clergy sexual abuse cases against the Diocese since the New York Child Victims Act took effect in August of 2013.

“The number of lawsuits represents staggering levels of abuse and pain caused by perpetrators who hid behind the Roman collar,” said attorney Steve Boyd following the filing of 76 child sexual abuse suits against the Diocese in July of 2020. “We are proud to stand with these courageous survivors.”
