News Release: Hearings Tomorrow in Case Involving Crookston Bishop Michael Hoeppner’s Coercion of Survivor Ron Vasek

Hearing Tomorrow in Thief River Falls in Case Where Statute of Limitations Extended by Bishop Michael J. Hoeppner’s Coercion

Attorneys asking Court to Sanction the Diocese of Crookston for Concealing Msgr. Roger Grundhaus’ Name

(Thief River Falls, MN) – In a hearing tomorrow, courageous survivor Ron Vasek will ask the Court to deny the Diocese of Crookston’s attempts to throw out his public nuisance and negligence claims.  Ron Vasek was sexually abused by former Vicar General of the Diocese of Crookston, Msgr. Roger Grundhaus, in approximately 1971.  After Mr. Vasek disclosed the abuse to Bishop Hoeppner in 2009 or 2010, the Diocese of Crookston went to great lengths to keep Msgr. Grundhaus’ name and Mr. Vasek’s abuse from the public, including threatening his participation in the Church and violating a 2015 Court Order in the case Doe 19 v. Diocese of Crookston, et al.  Through his lawsuit, Mr. Vasek seeks to force the Diocese of Crookston to end their long-standing practice of concealment and protection of child sexual abusers.

In a related hearing immediately afterward, survivor Doe 19 will ask the Court to sanction the Diocese of Crookston for failing to produce Msgr. Grundhaus’ file in his case in 2015.
