“While a partial settlement is a long way from full accountability, it is a giant step for the survivors and a testament to their courage, their will and their persistence in the face of severe resistance by the Archbishop.” – Jeff Anderson
(New Orleans, LA) – Sexual abuse survivors and the Archdiocese of New Orleans have reached a multi-million settlement on behalf of hundreds of survivors who came forward under the Louisiana Child Victims Act.
“The survivors in New Orleans have remained resilient and determined. Today’s partial settlement is a long-overdue breakthrough of a wall of denial, deceit, and delay.” – Molly Burke, attorney
This news comes over five years after the Archdiocese of New Orleans filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Since then, there have been legal ups and downs that have required that survivors keep fighting for accountability and transparency.
“Early earmarks of this battle have been contentious and disturbing because of the secret practices employed by the Archdiocese and permitted until now. This is the first light and opportunity for the truth to be known and told. While a partial settlement is a long way from full accountability, it is a giant step for the survivors and a testament to their courage, their will and their persistence in the face of severe resistance by the Archbishop of New Orleans.” – Jeff Anderson
