Archdiocese of Los Angeles Sued Under California Child Victims Act For Sexually Abusive Priest

Survivor to Speak Publicly for First Time

(Los Angeles, CA) – Tuesday in Los Angeles, a courageous survivor, advocates and the law firm of Jeff Anderson & Associates will:

  • Discuss and reveal a lawsuit filed under the California Child Victims Act (AB218) against the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for the sexual abuse by one of its priests – Fr. Honesto Bayranta Bismonte – who is believed to be residing in Los Angeles;
  • The Plaintiff, a woman who was abused when she was 8-12 years old, will reveal her identity and speak publically for the first time;
  • Discuss and reveal that the Plaintiff in this lawsuit reported Fr. Bismonte’s abuse of her while she was still a minor. As a result, law enforcement became involved and Fr. Bismonte was criminally charged and convicted;
  • Demand full disclosure by Archbishop Jose H. Gomez of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles of the identities, histories, and current whereabouts of all clergy accused of child sexual abuse who worked in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, including Fr. Bismonte. The lawsuit seeks disclosure of whether Fr. Bismonte is still being protected by Archdiocesan Officials and where he is now;
  • Discuss California’s historic Child Victims Act, a new law that extends the statute of limitation and provides a three (3)- year window for sexual abuse survivors to bring lawsuits in cases that were previously barred by the statute of limitations, no matter when the abuse occurred or how old the survivor is;
  • Encourage sexual abuse survivors to come forward confidentially under the Child Victims Act.
