First Human Trafficking, Childhood Sexual Assault and Civil RICO Lawsuit Will Be Filed Against La Luz del Mundo

Survivor of Trafficking, Forced Labor, Sexual Assault, Financial Exploitation and Harassment Will Share Story

(Los Angeles, CA) – On Thursday, February 13, attorneys from Greenberg Gross and Jeff Anderson & Associates will discuss the case filed on behalf of a courageous survivor against La Luz Del Mundo (LDM), Naasón Joaquin Garcia and LDM leadership. Attorneys and survivor/plaintiff will:

  •  Reveal and discuss the first lawsuit brought against La Luz del Mundo under the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA), the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), the Forced Labor Standards Act, and the new California Child Victims Act (AB 218).
  •  Reveal and discuss how LDM leaders built a system to procure and groom children, including the survivor/plaintiff, to be sexually abused and assaulted by the Apostle Naasón and his now deceased father, Apostle Samuel. Leaders who were a part of el Consejo de Obispos and others would find attractive young children and bring them to the Apostles to curry favor with them. It was not uncommon for members of el Consejo de Obispos to bring their own children and grandchildren to the Apostles for sexual servitude.
  • Reveal the trafficking, sexual abuse and assault, violence, and coercion perpetuated by Apostle Naasón and LDM leaders against the survivor. Apostle Naasón used his unquestioned authority to control and abuse the survivor. The abuse started before Naasón became the Apostle and only became worse once he ascended to the position of the Apostle.
  • Bring attention to the lavish lifestyles of LDM leaders funded by the unpaid labor and financial exploitation of the plaintiff and LDM members. The plaintiff was pressured into working at least 30,000 hours with no compensation and make significant financial contributions. It is not uncommon for families to sign over the title to their homes to LDM leadership.
Encourage victims of LDM who have been victims of sexual assault or denied pay for their labor to come forward confidentially.
