Survivors and church representatives announced a joint bankruptcy reorganization plan in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis case, describing it as a hard-won outcome driven by hundreds of survivors who came forward under Minnesota’s Child Victims Act. Speakers said the agreement follows years of litigation, mediation, and survivor advocacy, and includes major non-monetary outcomes such as the public identification of 91 credibly accused clerics, the release of well over 100,000 pages of church files, and greater exposure of the roles top church officials played in handling abuse claims.

They also said the financial settlement totals more than $210 million, calling it the largest settlement reached in a Catholic bankruptcy case at the time. Survivors who spoke at the event emphasized that the result was about more than money: it was about truth, accountability, child protection, and giving hundreds of survivors a voice. Several described the agreement as a meaningful step forward, while also stressing that the broader work of protecting children and supporting survivors is not finished.
