A sexual abuse survivor speaks publicly about his abuse by Fr. Peter Charland at SS Philip and James Church.
A demand for full disclosure by the Diocese of Rockville and the religious orders regarding all clergy accused of sexual abuse who worked in the diocese, including their current whereabouts, photographs, and histories.
A report released by Jeff Anderson & Associates identified 65 clerics publicly accused of child sexual abuse who worked in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Speakers said the diocese has never provided a full public accounting of these names, histories, photographs, or current whereabouts, despite having long held that information. They argued the report is meant to fill part of that gap and press the diocese and religious orders to disclose more.
Survivor Steve Werner also spoke publicly about abuse by Fr. Peter Charland, saying he rejected an offer through the diocese’s compensation program because it did not provide real transparency or accountability. The event emphasized that secrecy has protected both offenders and church leadership for too long, and that survivors need truth, not just payouts, if communities are going to be safer.
