Didn't they make an offer of settlement before they filed for bankruptcy? By not accepting the offer didn't you risk the victims will get nothing because of the bankruptcy?

I pray for those who have been abused, those who abused, and those who are exploiting the abuse scandal for their own advancement and wealth. This is a horrible situation that needs to be remedied. The answer is not to get rid of the celibate priesthood (believe, I would know), the answer is not to cover up the sins of the past, and the answer is especially not to try and advance ones own practice and career by hiding behind the horrible misdeeds of others and exploiting the situation. The answer is the Gospel. The answer is Christ. There are many ways to bring about change. Jeff is doing his brand of it and becoming exceedingly wealthy during the process. I'm on the inside, giving up everything including my own self to bring about the change we need. Pray my brothers and sisters...for all involved. God bless us all.

Although Listecki and Archdiocese's actions may be inexplicable when measured against the gospels, yet these actions are very consistent with those of corrupt corporatists in the world's oldest all-male celibate oligarchy. It's all they live for!

Another bankruptcy filing to keep from placing their hands on a bible and vowing to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Listecki's statements today: "This action is occurring because priest-perpetrators sexually abused minors, going against everything the church and the priesthood represents.” is most interesting because he as administrative CEO is abusing the survivors and their loved ones by his actions. Give him a gold plated millstone to hang around his next for he is continuing to harm the little ones.

Mothers it is all on you. You have not: been generous enough (had enough children), educated them Catholic enough(fed them to the priests and the priesthood), told the priests they are Holy often enough, told the Bishops what wonderful servants of God they are, nor done enough penance to keep them safe from the wiles of the devil. Now get out there and evangelize and bring us more souls of docile obedience to the spirit of the Magisterium!

What really sickens me is the Archbishop lied straight out to the people of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, and the general public he did not know why the victims did not take an offer of 4.million dollars. They are making it sound like it's ALL about the money,I as a victim in this case says IT IS NOT,what it is about is releasing ALL the pedophile priests names that are being hidden by the church and it's officials, and bringing them to justice and getting them out of the Priesthood and hopefully off the streets just like any other pedophile offender, and protecting the children.

What about all the fabulous art in the Vatican? As the corporate head of the R.C. Church, it would
seem that some of the art could be sold and the funds used to assist victims.
The abuse issue caused me to leave the Roman Catholic Church. Whenever I went to church, all I
could do is cry. How could a Church of God keep
"secrets" while children were being abused?

Let's not forget that the efforts by this archbishop also serve to turn parishioners, loyal supports of the hierarchy, against the victims. Whether spoken or not, that is in the play book established by the bishops, the Watican and Pope Benedict. They attempt to say all the right things but they NEVER speak to their own negligence and that of their fellow bishops which allowed the abuse to fester, exposed thousands more to abuse and left thousands of permanently scarred victims and survivors. Many victims lost their lives to substance abuse, suicide or murder.

Fundamental to Christian beliefs (whether we are practicing or not), it will always be right to stand with victims and survivors of clergy sexual abuse. If that means that in so doing we stand against the corrupt hierarchy, against priests who knew and didn't tell and against Pew Catholics who knew and didn't tell but continue to contribute thereby supporting the corruption, then so be it.

In each case where a bishop seeks to exploit US bankruptcy protection, it's on the eve of a trial or deposition at which top church staff would have to face tough questions under oath about their complicity in clergy sex crimes. This is not about protecting church assets. It's about protecting bishops' secrets.

Good work, keep the pressure on those pedophile protecting scum bags !!! The strategy of the 'catholic church ' is to deny and delay ! The 'archbishop' is the last person I would believe and trust.Any one who continues to support the catholic church is an ' ACCOMPLICE' to the victims that were abused by these phonies hiding behind a collar !

Shame on you! The Archbishop very clearly stated that this was brought on by the shameful actions of priests who acted against everything the Church teaches and the priesthood stands for. This mess is sad enough without your calumny.
